Random Thoughts: This is a sequel to "Somewhere Along the Line" and "Hidden in Plain Sight." You don't have to have read those stories to understand this one. Also, a quick apology. My computer is acting up, so I'm transferring this story from Word. The weird returns and spacing are the computers fault, not mine. :) Rating: PG-13 Disclaimer: I don't own them. I just like to have fun with them. Please don't sue me. I have no money. Summary: Josh tries to win Donna's heart, but a rival soon enters the picture. Changes Introduction
Josh had always been attracted to Donna. However, he'd never acted on his feelings, knowing that their business relationship and friendship were too important to him to screw up. And although he had heard that the best romances were often based on friendship, he was still afraid he'd screw up. However, last Friday night, Donna had shown up at a presentation he had given to a class at Georgetown. She had tried her best to remain hidden, but Josh had seen her. She'd disappeared before he'd had a chance to find out what she was doing there, but Josh had an idea of why she might have been. At least, he hoped he knew the reason she was there. Since Josh was far too chicken for an all-out declaration of love, he decided to embark on an alternate route to Donna's heart, starting Monday. *** Changes Chapter 1 Donna Moss threaded her way around the desks in the bullpen. She was mentally ticking off the things she wanted to get done before Josh got in, when she stopped short of her desk. There was a cup of coffee sitting in the middle of her desk, as well as a raspberry scone. She was also surprised to see the light on in Josh's office. Stunned into temporary immobility, Donna finally flung her bag down, grabbed the cup and rushed into Josh's office. "Joshua." Josh was seated at his desk, his head resting in his right hand, as he read through a file. He startled at the sound of his voice. He raised his head and smiled at his assistant. "Good morning, Donna." Donna eyed him warily. "What is wrong with you?" Secretly laughing inside, Josh leaned back in his chair, "Well, that really isn't any way to greet the day, Donnatella." Donna put the cup of coffee down on his desk and circled around to him. She placed a hand upon his forehead. "Donna?" Finding no fever, Donna peered into Josh's eyes. "Alright. Who are you and what have you done with Josh?" Josh laughed out loud. "Donna, what is wrong with you?" "Wrong with me? Wrong with me?" she spouted. She pointed to her coffee. "You bring me coffee and my favorite breakfast food. You're here before me. You're surprisingly chipper for a Monday morning, and you're asking what's wrong with me?" Josh stared back at her sedately, "Yes." Donna let out a frustrated sigh and took her coat off. She seated herself in one of the chairs opposite his desk. "What's going on?" "I can't just be nice without all this suspicion?" "Joshua. It's Monday morning. You're never anything but surly on Monday mornings. And you never, ever, ever stop for coffee, much less bring me any. Hence, I'm assuming you've been overtaken by the pod people." Josh smiled. "I'm insulted. Not only have you accused me of being too weak minded to survive an attack by the pod people, but you haven't even tried your coffee." Donna eyed him suspiciously again as she reached for the cup. She raised her eyebrow. "Did you poison it?" Josh laughed back. "No." "Did you spike it?" "No." "Did you…" Josh interrupted her. "While you're assessing all the various things I could have done to your coffee, it's getting cold." Donna eyed him again, but brought the cup to her lips. She couldn't hold back a smile after swallowing. Josh gave her a matching smile. "It's your favorite. Coffee with a touch of cinnamon. I had to bully the coffee shop guy to make it for you because they only offer it on Wednesdays." Donna stared at Josh over the lid of the cup as she took another sip. Josh's smile just got bigger. "Obviously it meets with your approval?" "Mm hmm," said Donna after swallowing again, the coffee and something else warming her to her very core. "If I'd known it was this easy to render you speechless, I would have done this months ago," said Josh, settling back in his chair again and pulling a file towards him. "Now, shoo. I am a very important and busy man. I can't have my assistant sitting around all day sipping coffee like she's on vacation." Still dazed, Donna grabbed her coat and her coffee and disappeared through Josh's door. But before she turned the corner, she turned around and looked at Josh. "Thanks, Josh," she whispered. "You're welcome. Now go. How can I appear busy with you hanging around my door?" he asked shooting her another smile. Donna turned the corner towards her desk and Josh put the file down. "Mission accomplished," he thought to himself with a smile.
