"He was flirting with her, right there in the Oval Office. And she was falling for it." Sam said angrily spearing a french fry with his fork. "He was probably just being friendly Sam." Mallory O'Brien said not really wanting to talk about Caitlin but having no luck diverting Sam from the topic. "Friendly? Friendly is saying things like nice to meet you. Nice blouse, how about those Yankees. Not 'in my country it is customary to stand when a beautiful woman walks in the room.' " Sam said with a mock spanish accent. "Please." "He said that to Caitlin?" Mallory asked a little surprised. "Yes. And she ate it up." "Well from what I hear the Ambassador is quite a charmer and incredibly good looking." "Well I guess, if you go for that tall, dark, and handsome type." "Sam, could we maybe talk about something else. Like the reception coming up." "Um, ok." "So what time are you picking me up?" "Uh, I don't know. I have a meeting right beforehand. I could send a car for you and meet you at the White House." Sam said distractedly. "Well I guess that will be ok. We can always..." "You know, he'll probably be at the reception with his overbearing charm trying to sweep my Caitlin off her feet." "What did you say?" "I said that he'll probably be at the reception trying to sweep Caitlin off her feet." "No, you said 'my Caitlin'." Mallory said getting angry. "Why would I say 'your Caitlin'. You don't even like her." "Not MY Caitlin. You said and I quote 'trying to sweep my Caitlin off her feet.' As in your, Sam Seaborn's, Caitlin." Sam stopped mid-bite and stared at Mallory. Had he really said that? "No I didn't" "Yes you did." Mallory said forcefully. "You probably just misunderstood me." "I don't think so." Mallory said throwing her napkin on the table and getting up. "Mall, wait." Sam said going over to her. "If I did say it, it was just a slip. You know I care about her. She's like a sister to me." "Right" "Listen, I'll tell you what. I don't really need to be at the meeting on Wednesday. I'll pick you up for the reception, ok?" "Alright. I have to get back to school." Mallory said not completely reassured. Sam bent to kiss her on the cheek but she took his face and kissed him passionately. "Remember that until Wednesday." Mallory said before she left. Sam stared after her, his face a little red. He sat down, took a drink of water and said softly to himself "My Caitlin."
